Nicht Da, Nicht Dort

Ehrenstein's collection pulses with the restless energy of early Expressionist Vienna, where ancient myth collides with modern absurdity. The opening piece reimagines Homer not as a marble statue of a blind bard but as a struggling,酒醉的 poet navigating the chaotic origins of his epics, weaving scholarly wit with pure fantasy. Other tales follow a cursed royal family beset by grotesque transformations, their decline rendered in richly fantastical prose that doubles as savage social satire. Throughout, Ehrenstein deploys magical curses and theatrical scenarios to interrogate identity, fate, and artistic ambition. The humor is sharp, the imagery unsettling, the effect deeply modern. These are stories written in a time of profound displacement, and they feel it: strange, restless, never quite grounded in the here or there. For readers who love Kafka's edge mixed with biblical grandeur and a distinctly Jewish sense of the absurd.
