Nequa or The Problem of the Ages
<i>Nequa or The Problem of the Ages</i>, published in 1900, is one of the first feminist science fiction novels in the United States. The story follows a voyage to the Arctic, where the captain discovers a hidden society of Altrurians living in the Earth's interior, who have developed a cooperative and progressive culture. The novel reflects the Populist ideals of its time, emphasizing feminist themes and political commentary. Authored under the pseudonym Jack Adams, it was actually copyrighted by Alcanoan A. Grigsby and Mary P. Lowe.
