Multilingual Short Works Collection 034 - Poetry & Prose
A rare listening experience: brief, intimate works in Catalan, Finnish, French, and other languages, each recorded by Librivox volunteers who bring their own voices to poetry and prose from around the world. Joan Maragall's Catalan visiones (visions) shimmer with early modernist mysticism, visionaries and friars appearing on mountain slopes. Alexis Kivi's Finnish story "Mies" (Man) follows a rural life shadowed by divorce and thunder, hope flickering against hardship. Léon-Pamphile Le May contributes French verse of elegant sentiment. These are not polished studio recordings but warm, personal readings, often with the subtle texture of a human voice in a quiet room. The collection spans just over 40 minutes, each piece a doorway into another linguistic world. For listeners curious about how poetry sounds in languages rarely heard in English-dominated audio spaces, this is a modest treasure: brief enough to sample, varied enough to surprise, intimate enough to feel like a gift from a stranger who wanted you to hear something beautiful in their mother tongue.
