Mollie's Substitute Husband

John Merriam is tired. Tired of Riceville, tired of being the high school principal, tired of his small and predictable life. So when he takes a night off in Chicago and strangers notice his striking resemblance to a certain wealthy man about town, he says yes to their request. What could one favor hurt?Everything. Everything could hurt, especially when he catches his first glimpse in years of Mollie June, the girl he once loved, now married to a powerful senator. She's beautiful, trapped, and caught in something bigger than she realizes. The favor starts simple: attend a dinner, make an appearance, be someone else for an evening. But Chicago in 1920 is a city of secrets, and Merriam is about to learn that impersonation is a dangerous game. Political reformers have their plans, the senator has his secrets, and Mollie June has her own reasons for wanting to escape. Merriam thought he was just doing a kindness. He didn't count on losing his heart. This is frothy, escapist fun: a small-town innocent tangled in political intrigue and romantic longing, perfect for anyone who wants a light, quick read with genuine heart.
