Mathieu Ropars: Et Cetera

On a windswept island off the French coast, Mathieu Ropars tends a lazaretto where ships suspected of contagion must wait out their quarantine. He lives there with his wife Geneviève and their two young daughters, Francine and Josèphe, in near-total isolation from the world. The sea provides their livelihood and their prison: the same waters that bring merchant vessels also carry the dread of yellow fever, cholera, and plague. When a frigate appears on the horizon, the family's fragile peace shatters. The ship may bring supplies and news from the mainland, but it may also bring death.
