Marriage at Sea
Herbert Barclay loves Grace Bellassys, but Lady Amelia Roscoe, Grace's Catholic guardian, will not sanction the union. When Herbert refuses to convert, Lady Amelia ships Grace off to a French finishing school, certain distance will kill the romance. She is wrong. The young lovers devise a scheme to elope, setting in motion a treacherous adventure that will test their devotion and throw them into danger on the high seas. William Clark Russell, the master of nautical fiction, brings his expertise to this tale of star-crossed lovers. The ocean becomes both obstacle and battlefield as Herbert and Grace chase their chance at happiness against the judgment of society, the machinations of Lady Amelia, and the raw, uncaring power of the sea itself. What begins as a romantic escape unfolds into something wilder: a story about what people will risk when love is the only thing that matters. For readers who crave Victorian romances spiked with adventure, for those who love stories of elopements and desperate bets against authority, this delivers both heart and thrills in equal measure.
