Published in 1956, 'Man of Distinction' is a science fiction novella by Michael Shaara that examines themes of identity and societal values through the life of Thatcher Blitt, a successful businessman in 2180. As the founder of Genealogy, Inc., Blitt uses a time scanner to explore his ancestry, only to discover that his lineage is unremarkable, filled with ordinary individuals. This ironic twist critiques the obsession with heritage and fame, questioning the significance of personal identity in a world where everyone shares common ancestry.
