Lease to Doomsday

Kevin Muldoon just wants to sell real estate. Instead he gets the Reeger twins, two identically dressed, identically creepy siblings who want to lease land next to a garbage dump. They're building something out there in that shack. They won't say what. Muldoon senses something off about them but can't quite figure out what - until he discovers the truth: the twins have built a machine that can print money. Not fake money. Real money. And they've been using it to quietly buy up property all over the county. The novel mixes hardboiled noir sensibility with B-movie science fiction. Muldoon is a tired, wry narrator caught in something bigger than a real estate deal. The twins are genuinely unsettling - their coordination, their secrecy, the machine itself. There's humor here too, some of it dated, some of it still sharp. It's a strange, specific artifact of mid-century American paranoia about schemes, twins, and what people will do for money.
