Le Cap Au Diable, Légende Canadienne

Along the Saint Lawrence River stands Cap au Diable, a jagged promontory where the river gives up its dead. Here, legend whispers from the fog, and the waters have claimed countless vessels across the centuries. Into this landscape of haunting beauty comes Monsieur St.-Aubin, a prosperous Acadian merchant whose gentle life unfolds against the very edge of danger. He and his wife embody the peace of Acadia before the world tears it apart. When Anglo-American forces descend upon the region, St.-Aubin is thrust into a journey that will separate him from everything he loves. The novel traces the cataclysm of the Acadian exodus through one man's ruin, his family's fracture, and a community's slow erasure from the land they called home. DeGuise weaves the raw historical wound of the Grand Expulsion with the ancient legend of Cap au Diable, creating a somber meditation on how places hold memory, and how some losses echo beyond any single lifetime. The prose carries the weight of tragedy yet pulses with the stubborn resilience of a people who refused to disappear entirely from these shores.
