Älä Nuolaise Ennenkuin Tipahtaa!: Romaani

In 1920s Finland, a young woman named Varpu Vapaa reaches across the boundaries of class and circumstance, desperate to claim a life larger than the one she was handed. Orphaned and overlooked, she clings to two ambitions: education and the love of her employer, the dashing office manager Äyrämö. But the world has a way of punishing girls who dream too loudly. Through the thin walls of her apartment, Varpu hears what she cannot have, and what she desires most seems always to slip just beyond her grasp. Hilja Valtonen, Finland's beloved serial novelist, crafts a story of relentless yearning and quiet devastation, capturing the particular cruelty of wanting something so close you can almost touch it, only to have it dissolve. This is a novel about the hunger of women in a society that expected them to be grateful for scraps, and the bitter truth that desire does not guarantee fulfillment.
