Josafat

Published in 1906, 'Josafat' by Prudenci Bertrana is a Catalan novel that explores the inner turmoil of a young man named Josafat, who serves as the campanero of the Girona cathedral. The narrative delves into his intense religious fervor and repressed erotic desires, culminating in a tragic encounter with Fineta, a woman whose influence leads him to moral conflict and violence. The novel critiques religious fanaticism and societal norms, making it a provocative work of early 20th-century modernist literature.
