In the Riding-School; Chats with Esmeralda

A young woman's determined quest to master horseback riding becomes a witty examination of learning, patience, and the peculiar dance between student and teacher. Esmeralda approaches the riding school with youthful enthusiasm that quickly collides with the humbling realities of equestrian art: the terror of mounting, the agony of muscles unaccustomed to the saddle, and the endless gentle corrections from her instructor. Through charming dialogue and vivid detail, Miss Hamlin captures both the practical wisdom and the comedy inherent in acquiring a new skill. The relationship between eager student and long-suffering instructor crackles with humor and insight, revealing that learning to ride is really about learning to trust, to fall, and to get back on. For readers who love period charm, gentle comedy, or stories of perseverance rewarded, this 1890 gem offers an intimate portrait of one woman's determination to conquer the saddle.
