Geschichte Der Philosophie Im Islam

Long before Europe emerged from its intellectual slumber, the Islamic world was producing some of history's most sophisticated philosophical minds. This 1901 work traces the remarkable journey of philosophical thought across the Arabic-speaking world, from its encounter with Greek wisdom through the great synthesizers who preserved, extended, and transformed classical thought within an Islamic framework. De Boer examines how thinkers across Baghdad, Cairo, and Cordoba grappled with fundamental questions: What is the relationship between reason and revelation? How can philosophical inquiry coexist with religious faith? What is the nature of existence itself? The book maps this intellectual tradition in all its cultural richness, showing how Arabic, Persian, and other scholars built philosophical systems that would later influence European thought. Written with the scholarly rigor of its era but unafraid to acknowledge the gaps in the historical record, this remains a foundational survey for anyone seeking to understand the philosophical legacy of the Islamic world.
