Germania

Germania, written by Publius Cornelius Tacitus around 98 AD, is an ethnographic account of the Germanic tribes outside the Roman Empire. The work details the geography, laws, customs, and individual tribes of the Germans, contrasting their perceived virtues, such as monogamy and bravery, with Roman societal vices. Tacitus' observations also include critiques of Germanic habits, like drunkenness and laziness. This translation by Alfred John Church and William Jackson Brodribb was published in 1877 and remains a significant historical source on early Germanic culture.
