Fierabras

Fierabras, first published in 1860, is a French epic poem that recounts the adventures of the Saracen knight Fierabras and his sister Floripas as they ally with Charlemagne and his knights. This work is notable for being one of the most successful chansons de geste, exploring themes of heroism, faith, and moral allegory against the backdrop of the historical Saracen attacks on Rome in the ninth century. The poem features dynamic storytelling and rich characterizations, reflecting the oral traditions of medieval literature. Newth's translation retains the musicality of the original while providing historical context and analysis.
