Fables for the Frivolous

Fables for the Frivolous, published in 1898 by Guy Wetmore Carryl, is a collection of humorous fables inspired by the works of Jean de La Fontaine. Written in verse, these light-hearted tales feature anthropomorphized animals and conclude with a moral lesson, often infused with clever wordplay. Notable fables include 'The Persevering Tortoise and the Pretentious Hare' and 'The Sycophantic Fox and the Gullible Raven.' Carryl's playful and satirical take on human nature reflects the literary style of the late 19th century, making this work both entertaining and socially insightful.
