אצל Etsel
אצל Etsel is a story by Uri Nissan Gnessin, a pioneer of modern Hebrew literature, published in 1904. The narrative follows a young man afflicted with severe heart disease, exploring his struggles with love and emotional connection as he encounters several women who wish to love him. Gnessin's unique expressionistic prose style marks this work as notable in Hebrew literature, reflecting the complexities of human relationships and the impact of illness on one's ability to connect. Gnessin's contributions to Hebrew literature extend beyond this work, as he was also a co-founder of the Hebrew-language publishing house Nisyonot and a co-editor of the periodical Ha'Meorer.
