End as a Hero is a science fiction novel by Keith Laumer, first published in 1985. The story follows Peter Granthan, a psychodynamicist who survives an attack by the alien race known as the Gool, only to return home branded a traitor. As he grapples with mind control and the implications of loyalty, Granthan must race against time to develop a matter transmission device and thwart the Gool's plans, ultimately challenging the nature of heroism and sacrifice in the face of interstellar conflict.
