Ecology on Rollins Island

In a future where the World Food Institute controls every calorie on Earth, Rollins Island is a last sanctuary of wild growth, and George is the man who broke its laws. When resource depletion drove humanity to total governmental control over food, the WFI became god. Now George has been caught poaching on the only uncultivated land left, and his punishment must serve as spectacle in a starving world. This is a lean, anxious novella about what happens when survival becomes political, when every meal is someone else's calculation, and when the crime is simply wanting to live free. Lang writes with 1950s precision and mounting dread, building a world where the real horror isn't hunger, it's the certainty that someone, somewhere, has decided what you're worth eating. For readers who want their sci-fi stripped of optimism and dressed in consequence.
