Sol Jones has seen a lot of strange things in his travels across the galaxy, but nothing quite like a diver from Antimony IX. These creatures are invisible, can teleport objects with a thought, and can read your mind - which makes them extremely valuable, extremely illegal, and extremely problematic to have around the house. Sol brings one home as a wedding gift for his girlfriend Florence, thinking it'll impress her. Instead, the creature reads her unspoken doubts about the marriage, teleports their neighbor's belongings into their apartment, and generally makes a mess of everything private. What starts as a whimsical sci-fi comedy about an unusual pet becomes something sharper: an examination of what happens when your thoughts are no longer your own, and whether love can survive perfect transparency. Stamers has a genuine gift for comic timing, and the premise is weird enough to stick with you long after you've finished.
