Drum-Taps
Drum-Taps is a collection of poems by Walt Whitman, published in 1865 as a response to his experiences during the American Civil War. Drawing from his volunteer work in wartime hospitals, the poems reflect on the horrors of war while expressing a strong sense of patriotism in support of President Lincoln's efforts. The 1915 edition includes an introduction that connects the Civil War to World War I, positioning Whitman as a posthumous supporter of the Allied cause against Germany.
