Die Andere Seite: Ein Phantastischer Roman

“The demiurge is a hybrid””

— Alfred Kubin

— Alfred Kubin

“At times it sounded as if the river was hungry, and its waves licked spoonfuls of sand from the bank, at others it was lamenting in many-voiced, mystic song.””

— Alfred Kubin

“I had a black coffee and came to the conclusion I was fit for neither life nor suicide. ‘I’ll just vegetate somewhere between the two, waiting for the final blow like an ox at the slaughterhouse. It won’t be long coming.””

— Alfred Kubin

“There was something beyond comprehension, beyond consolation about it all.””

— Alfred Kubin

“He was single-minded in his relentless pursuit of an imagined ideal, an ideal he unfortunately never found fully realised or, rather, never permanently realised.””

— Alfred Kubin

“An artist is seldom really bad; a mean trick now and then, that’s usually about as far as it goes. Our sensations leave us no time for large-scale nastiness.””

— Alfred Kubin

“You’ll understand my good mood when I tell you about the latest absurdity I came across.””

— Alfred Kubin
