Der Skorpion. Band 2

In 1921 Berlin, a woman named Mette Rudloff is learning to live after love. Having lost Olga, the person who first made her understand her own heart, Mette finds herself alone in a new city, haunted by memory and terrified of feeling that much again. She wanders museums, observes the pension's guests from the margins, and battles the armor she has built from past suffering. When she meets Gisela Werkenthin, another wounded soul navigating her own pain, something cracks open. Mette begins to find others like herself, queer men and women living in the shadows of a society that denies them existence. But connection demands vulnerability, and Mette discovers that finding community is not the same as finding understanding. This second volume of Anna Elisabet Weirauch's groundbreaking novel traces one woman's difficult, unsentimental journey from grief toward the terrifying possibility of love again. It is a document of early queer literature: raw, psychologically precise, and aching with the particular loneliness of knowing yourself before the world was ready to know you.
