Der Roman Eines Geborenen Verbrechers: Selbstbiographie Des Strafgefangenen Antonino M...

Written from an Italian prison cell in the 1890s, this is the harrowing self-portrait of a man who committed unspeakable violence and now attempts to understand why. Antonino M. reconstructs his tumultuous upbringing, his descent into criminality, and his encounters with a network of hardened offenders within the prison system. What emerges is neither simple confession nor excuse-making, but something more unsettling: a genuine struggle to disentangle fate from choice. Was he born criminal, as the title claims, or did society forge him through neglect and brutality? The text stands as a remarkable artifact of early psychological literature, predating modern criminology while grappling with questions that still obsess us. This is uncomfortable reading. The author does not ask for forgiveness. He asks only to be understood, even as he admits his failed attempts to master his own violent nature. For readers drawn to the dark corners of human experience, this offers an authentic voice from the margins of history.
