Novels, Science-Fiction & Fantasy

When a nuclear test fails catastrophically, the government discovers the real threat isn't fission, it's a quiet scientist named Malcolm Dobbs, who can reshape atomic structures with his mind. Patrick Flinn, a parapsychologist with his own telepathic gifts, is recruited to determine if Dobbs can be controlled, contained, or must be eliminated. The deeper Flinn digs, the more he realizes the line between national security and outright murder has blurred completely. Someone in power wants Dobbs dead, and Flinn is caught between his loyalty to the state and the uncomfortable truth that his target has committed no crime, he simply possesses the power to end civilization. This is Cold War paranoia at its sharpest: a cat-and-mouse thriller where the mouse could level cities and the cat must decide whether to cage him or kill him. The 1950s setting lends the novel an eerie prescience, imagining a world where the most dangerous weapons aren't bombs but minds.
