De Ontredderden. Eerste Bundel. I En II.

A literary work likely written in the late 19th century. It appears to be a novel or a collection of stories that delve into the struggles of marginalized individuals in society, focusing particularly on the lives of children living in poverty. The text hints at themes of despair, resilience, and the intricate dynamics of human relationships amidst harsh circumstances. The opening of the narrative sets a somber tone with a metaphorical portrayal of life's challenges and the concept of being ''ontredderd,'' or disoriented and broken. Through vivid imagery of ships wrecking, collapsing buildings, and withering trees, it compares these elements to the lives of people who, like the described objects, face destruction through adversity. The narrative shifts to the perspective of a young boy who embodies the plight of street children as he struggles to survive another day, reveals his relationships with family, and showcases the harsh realities of begging and societal indifference. The beginning thus outlines the stark contrast between the innocence of childhood and the crushing burdens of life, promising a poignant exploration of resilience among societal outcasts.
