Cidade do Vício

Fialho de Almeida

Cidade do Vício is a collection of fictional short stories by José Fialho de Almeida, dedicated to Joaquim Xavier de Figueiredo and Mello Oriol Pena. Written during his medical studies and published in the late 19th century, these tales reflect the author's experiences and observations of life in Lisbon, particularly its theaters, cafés, and bookstores. Fialho de Almeida, who graduated in 1885, eventually turned to journalism, which became his lifelong passion despite financial struggles.
