Chateau and Country Life in France

Chateau and Country Life in France, written by Mary King Waddington and first published in 1908, offers a detailed account of rural French life in the early 20th century. Blending personal narrative with social observation, Waddington explores the customs, family dynamics, and lifestyle of aristocratic families in the French countryside. The book provides insights into the workings of châteaux and the local politics of the time, reflecting on the contrasts between her American upbringing and the austere life of her French hosts.
