Cathedral
Cathedral, published in 1898 by Joris-Karl Huysmans, is the third novel featuring the character Durtal, a reflection of the author himself. Following his retreat at a Trappist monastery, Durtal relocates to Chartres, where he becomes captivated by the city's famous cathedral. The novel is notable for its intricate descriptions of the cathedral and its exploration of Durtal's spiritual journey, continuing the themes of conversion introduced in Huysmans' earlier works, Là-bas and En route.
