Canada in War-Paint

Published in 1917, 'Canada in War-Paint' by Ralph W. Bell is a collection of vignettes that captures the experiences of soldiers in the First Canadian Infantry Battalion during World War I. Rather than a historical account, the book presents sketches of daily life in the trenches, highlighting the struggles, camaraderie, and resilience of the troops. Bell's observations balance humor and hardship, providing insight into the grim conditions and the spirits of soldiers as they navigate military life amidst the challenges of war.
