Beautiful Birds

Published in 1901, 'Beautiful Birds' by Edmund Selous is a juvenile literature book that highlights the beauty of various bird species, particularly Birds of Paradise. The narrative not only celebrates their aesthetic appeal but also addresses the ecological and ethical issues surrounding their hunting for ornamentation. Selous personifies Nature and her creations, urging readers, especially women, to consider the consequences of their actions on these magnificent creatures. The book serves as both an appreciation of avian beauty and a call for conservation and empathy towards wildlife.
