Bad Memory

What would you give up to start over? Ex-vector Commander Jim Channing has a simple dream: own a planet and leave his military past behind. The solution seems absurdly straightforward: transform into a Jube, an alien species, and claim farmland on an unpopulated world. Five years pass in joyful solitude as a Jube farmer, and then Aln Muh arrives another transformed human seeking a fresh start. They find something neither expected: a love so profound it feels like remembering a forgotten truth. But the price of becoming something else is steeper than Channing imagined. His human memories begin to dissolve like morning fog, and when he finally reverts to his original form, he discovers that becoming human again means losing everything that made his new life meaningful. Bad Memory is a haunting meditation on identity as something fluid, something you can pour out like water and never quite get back. It asks the question every reinvention forces us to face: if you change who you are, are you still the person who wanted something different?
