Athenaeum Souvenir

Athenaeum Souvenir
Published in the 19th century, the 'Athenaeum Souvenir' is a collection of poems contributed by notable poets including Charles Swain, Agnes Strickland, and Thomas Hood, who provided a preface. Created to support the Manchester Athenaeum, founded in 1837 to promote knowledge, this anthology showcases both prominent and local poets, including Ann Hawkshaw's debut poem and a rare piece by Robert Rose, a Jamaican-born poet. The collection highlights Manchester's literary scene beyond its industrial reputation.
