alte Haus
A sealed house holds its secrets close. The servants in the Hechner household know the old Quetzlinberger mansion next door is not to be trusted: lights flicker in the upper windows at night, and the townsfolk still speak of the ancient Mr. Quetzlinberger, who has allegedly kept his lonely vigil for a hundred years. The house has been locked and shuttered for ages, its inheritance tied up in bitter legal disputes among greedy heirs. Yet young Marie Hechner once slipped through a hidden connecting door and saw something there, something wonderful and strange. Or perhaps it was only an ether dream, a child's fantasy? Years pass. The memory fades. Then a young man arrives: Herr Schierling, the primary heir come to legitimize his claim to the Quetzlinberger fortune. The Hechner family takes him in as their guest. But Marie can hardly believe what she sees. The old house is waking up, and its secrets will not stay buried forever. This is German Gothic at its finest, a tale of phantom lights, contested inheritances, and the weight of family curses that refuse to die.
