A Treatise of Schemes and Tropes
1550
A Treatise of Schemes and Tropes, written by Richard Sherry and first published in 1550, is a Renaissance-era textbook focused on figures of rhetoric. This work aims to enhance the understanding of eloquence through stylistic devices in writing and speaking, particularly for English speakers. Sherry addresses the lack of English terminology for rhetorical concepts and emphasizes the importance of clarity and effective language use. The treatise serves as a foundational guide for improving expression in both literary and religious contexts.
