A Princess of Mars
Transported mysteriously from an Arizona cave to the dying planet Mars (or Barsoom, as its inhabitants call it), Confederate veteran John Carter finds himself endowed with superhuman strength and agility in the planet's lighter gravity. He swiftly becomes entangled in the complex, often violent, politics of its diverse alien races—from the four-armed, green-skinned Tharks to the more humanoid red Martians. His quest to return home quickly takes a backseat to rescuing the beautiful, imperious princess Dejah Thoris, sparking an epic romance and a series of swashbuckling adventures across a vividly imagined, fantastical alien landscape.
