A Creel of Irish Stories

A Creel of Irish Stories, published in 1897 by Jane Barlow, is a collection of short stories set in the rural landscape of Ireland. The opening story introduces Eileen Fitzmaurice, a young girl whose imaginative explorations reveal themes of childhood wonder, familial connections, and the socio-economic struggles of rural life. Barlow's rich descriptions and incorporation of Irish folklore create an engaging portrayal of local customs and the mysteries of personal histories, making this work a notable contribution to Irish literature.
