A Child of the Glens; Or, Elsie's Fortunes

On the rugged Antrim coast, where the sea crashes against ancient cliffs, two orphaned children labor under the stern watch of their foster parents. Elsie and Jim know nothing of their origins, only that the harsh McAravey farm is all they have ever known, and the question of who they were before the glens claimed them lingers like morning fog over the hills. When a drowned woman washes ashore, her body bearing secrets that may unravel the children's unknown past, the novel turns toward mystery and revelation. Edward N. Hoare renders the Irish coastline with a painter's eye, making the landscape itself a character in this poignant tale of belonging and the ache of unanswered questions. The story examines what family means when blood tells one story and circumstance another, set against a world where social divides shape every opportunity and rejection. For readers who cherish Victorian orphan narratives and tales of hidden parentage, this forgotten gem offers both atmospheric immersion and genuine emotional stakes.
