あめりか物語

あめりか物語 (American Stories) is a collection of narratives by Kafu Nagai, first published in 1908, detailing his experiences as a Japanese immigrant in the United States. The stories reflect on themes of travel, identity, and the immigrant experience, showcasing encounters with fellow travelers and the challenges faced by the foreign-born in American society. Through vivid observations of American life, from vibrant cities to the struggles of the immigrant underclass, Nagai provides a nuanced perspective on early 20th-century America. The English translation by Mitsuko Iriye includes important cultural and biographical context about Nagai's life and work.
