Arthur Leo Zagat was an American lawyer turned prolific writer, best known for his contributions to pulp fiction and science fiction. After abandoning his legal career, Zagat produced around 500 short stories that graced the pages of numerous pulp magazines, including Thrilling Wonder Stories, Argosy, and Astounding. His notable works include the 'Doc Turner' stories featured in The Spider and the 'Red Finger' series in Operator #5, as well as the Tomorrow series, which has gained recognition in recent years through collections published by Altus Press. Zagat's writing often reflected the adventurous and speculative nature of the genre, appealing to a wide audience during the pulp era. In addition to his writing, Zagat was deeply involved in the literary community. He served in the military during World War I, later studied at Bordeaux University, and graduated from Fordham Law School. His commitment to the arts extended beyond his own work; he taught writing at New York University and played a significant role in supporting fellow writers, particularly veterans, after World War II. Zagat's legacy endures through his extensive body of work and his influence on the pulp fiction genre, marking him as a significant figure in American literature during the early to mid-20th century.
