Where the Sabots Clatter Again

Where the Sabots Clatter Again, published in 1921 by Katherine Shortall, is a collection of reflections and sketches based on her experiences in post-World War I France. As a member of the Radcliffe Unit working with the French Red Cross, Shortall documents the resilience and renewal of communities like Noyon, which were devastated by the war. Through vignettes of local characters, including a nurse preparing for her wedding, the book captures the delicate balance of grief and hope as townspeople rebuild their lives amidst the scars of conflict.
