Tommy Trot's Visit to Santa Claus

This turn-of-the-century Virginia Christmas story follows young Tommy Trot, a boy who has everything he could ever wish for, yet finds his expensive toys leave him strangely empty. When he notices his less fortunate neighbor Johnny watching from the fence, something shifts in Tommy's heart. What begins as a small act of kindness blooms into a profound understanding: that the true magic of Christmas isn't in receiving, but in the joy of giving to others. Page writes with gentle warmth and period charm, capturing both the opulence of a Virginia estate at Christmastime and the simple dignity of a poor family's holiday. The story's message about class, empathy, and the nature of happiness feels neither preachy nor dated because it rests on a universal childhood truth, that the best gifts are the ones we give away. Perfect for reading aloud in a cozy room while the winter wind blows outside.
