Through Lands That Were Dark: Being a Record of a Year's Missionary Journey in Africa and Madagascar

Through Lands That Were Dark, published in 1914 by F. H. Hawkins, chronicles a year-long missionary journey in Africa and Madagascar. As the Foreign Secretary of the London Missionary Society, Hawkins shares his experiences and observations on the development of the Christian Church in regions previously considered 'dark.' The narrative highlights the societal impacts of missionary work, including education and community building, while also reflecting on the complexities of colonialism and the rise of local churches. This historical account serves as a significant record of early 20th-century missionary efforts in Southern Africa.
