The Wise Mamma Goose

A charming early 20th-century tale about a mother's intuition and the courage to speak up when others look away. Mamma Goose watches with growing dread as the barnyard's chicks vanish one by one in the darkness, taken by a fox no one else seems willing to name. While the other animals dismiss her fears as hysteria, she knows what she has seen, and she knows her goslings are next. What follows is a quiet act of maternal brilliance. Mamma Goose hides her family in Fido's abandoned doghouse, an act of defiance that requires her to trust her own judgment over the collective dismissal of her neighbors. When the proud white cock finally lends his voice to her cause, the whole barnyard learns to listen. The book carries the gentle urgency of classic children's literature, where danger is real but never gratuitous, and where wisdom often wears the face of the one everyone else underestimates. It's a story about what mothers know, what it costs to act on that knowledge, and how safety is earned through community rather than granted.
