How Freckle Frog Made Herself Pretty
Little Freckle Frog lives under a big rock, and she's ugly, as all frogs are. But she loves pretty things anyway maybe because she's not pretty herself. When invitations arrive for Mr. Robin Redbreast's grand party, Freckle Frog watches enviously through the window as Big Mary the doll parades by in her splendid dresses. Determined to be beautiful just this once, Freckle Frog enlists her friends: Little Black Spider spins her lace, a gentle butterfly brings a mushroom for a parasol, and a caterpillar volunteers to become a muff. At the party, surrounded by creatures who look down their noses at a frog in finery, Freckle Frog discovers something remarkable: her worth was never in her reflection. With a good heart and loyal friends, she decides everyone deserves a celebration and throws her own party, where every creature is welcome. It's a gentle, old-fashioned story about learning that kindness outlives cosmetics and that belonging beats beauty.
