The United States in the Light of Prophecy: Or, an Exposition of Rev. 13:11-17

Written in the late 19th century by Seventh-day Adventist author Uriah Smith, this provocative work argues that the United States appears in biblical prophecy as the mysterious "two-horned beast" of Revelation 13:11-17. Smith builds his case by tracing America's unprecedented rise from colonial settlements to global power, interpreting this rapid ascension as evidence of divine providence and prophetic fulfillment. He examines the nation's founding principles religious liberty, constitutional government, civil rights and argues these unique characteristics mark America as distinct among nations in scriptural end-times narrative. The work particularly focuses on the prophecy's warnings about eventual enforcement of Sunday worship, positioning the nation as central to God's final plan for humanity. This text represents a major strand of American religious thought that continues to influence millions, appealing to readers interested in American religious history, apocalyptic interpretation, and the ongoing American fascination with finding the nation written into scripture.
