The Thread of Life

The Infanta of Spain Eulalia wrote this philosophical volume in 1912, at a moment when European royalty faced unprecedented scrutiny and the old order trembled. Yet this is no treatise on power or politics. Instead, it is a remarkably intimate reflection on the art of living well, drawn from one woman's journey through the corridors of privilege toward genuine contentment. Eulalia rejects the pursuit of transitory desires, arguing that true happiness springs from self-awareness and the cultivation of one's inner life. She advocates for simplicity, for recognizing the profound satisfaction hidden in everyday moments. Her observations on women in society, on morality, and on the social problems of her era reveal a mind wrestling with the contradictions of her station. This is a princess who questioned the foundations of her world, and her answers still resonate across a century later.
