The Seat of Empire

The Seat of Empire, published in 1870 by Charles Carleton Coffin, is a historical account of the American Northwest during a period of significant westward expansion. Through a series of expeditions and personal experiences, Coffin describes the region's geography, resources, and the lives of its inhabitants, particularly focusing on the experiences of Norwegian immigrants. The narrative captures the beauty and potential of the land, detailing a summer journey from Chicago to Minneapolis and highlighting the hope and determination of those seeking new opportunities in this evolving frontier.
