The Plays of Roswitha
The Plays of Roswitha
The Plays of Roswitha is a collection of six Latin dramas written by Hrotsvitha of Gandersheim, a 10th-century Benedictine nun. Recognized as one of the earliest known female playwrights, Hrotsvitha's works explore themes of faith, virtue, and the dignity of women, often depicting characters in moral dilemmas. Influenced by classical models, particularly the Roman playwright Terence, her plays adapt comedic forms to convey Christian teachings, making a significant contribution to early Christian literature.
