The Duchess of Malfi
In the shadowy courts of 17th-century Italy, the recently widowed Duchess of Malfi dares to defy her powerful, possessive brothers by secretly marrying her steward, Antonio, a man far beneath her station. Her brothers, Ferdinand and the Cardinal, are consumed by a pathological fury at this transgression, seeing it as an affront to their aristocratic bloodline and a challenge to their control. What follows is a descent into a maelstrom of psychological torture, elaborate revenge plots, and spectacular violence, as the brothers unleash their monstrous cruelty upon the Duchess and all who support her, ensuring that no act of defiance goes unpunished, and no sin goes unavenged.
